Direct support to young people from CALD backgrounds, including those with refugee experiences, seeking asylum and those that are newly arrived, through the provision on appropriate information, advocacy, referrals and assistance
Culturally and linguistically respectful programs and services for young people with refugee experiences, newly arrived and asylum seeker young people, that will enable them to participate, grow and increase their access to opportunities
Partnerships initiatives with relevant cultural organisations, schools, communities and networks to strengthen cultural identity, community connections and access to services for young people
Connections and partnerships to address any barriers that might be preventing or limiting a young persons engagement or involvement in services or activities within the community
Reports and documentation including workplans, program proposals, risk assessments, evaluation, research and consultation findings
Professional mentoring and learning for staff within the Unit and wider organisation to enable the development of culturally and linguistically reflective practices
- Requirements:
Extensive knowledge of issues impacting the successful settlement of newly arrived young people and a demonstrated capacity to design and deliver contemporary approaches to meeting these complex needs
Degree qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Work or a related discipline and substantial relevant experience in the generalist youth sector as a practitioner
Practical working knowledge of youth work informed by culturally and linguistically respectful practice, and community and strength-based principles
Extensive experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse young people and their families, newly arrived, refugee or asylum seeker backgrounds experiencing vulnerability and demonstrated understanding of family related issues
Experience in developing, supporting and maintaining strategic partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
Strong background in developing, implementing, evaluating on reporting on programs and services
