- Job Description:
Reach individuals and families from the Afghan community who are settling in the Barwon region to inform them of our services and to provide them with relevant information to assist in their mental health treatment and support.
This role will primarily be working to establish and implement an advisory group from the Afghan community with the Community engagement worker to support this consumer group to have a voice in respect to their needs connected to mental health and wellbeing, access, and service improvement.
The key objectives of this role are:
To utilise consultation skills to create a safe environment for community members to have an opportunity to speak about their needs and be heard.
utilise knowledge of the community to inform community members of the agency and the services provided; and
in conjunction with Counsellor Advocates and Community Engagement Officer deliver information to relevant community members.
- Requirement:
Fluency in relevant community language/s (Hazaragi/Dari) and English with the capacity to provide interpretative services.
Demonstrated understanding of your community networks and communities.
Ability to work collaboratively within the community and with diverse groups across communities particularly women, men and youth.
Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with a range of groups.
Good interpersonal skills, showing ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with a range of people including refugee communities, peers, external stakeholders.
Understanding of the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
